The topics of podcasts has been something I’ve taken particular interest in for a few years now. To be perfectly honest I don’t watch (if we’re talking video) or listen to too many but I get quite into the ones I do.
I’ve wanted to do one for a couple of years, every so often I’d think about. More recently I’ve thought about it a lot more and realised it was time to pull the trigger.
First up we have a friend of mine I finally managed to catch up with after a few months of contact. I would love to fill you in with words but that would defeat the purpose of the podcast wouldn’t it. Dan is from America and is somewhat of a skilled and very enthusiastic spearfisherman with plenty of great things to say about New Zealand.
Find the video podcast below
And even a downloadable (I think) Soundcloud link
We spent a few days tripping about in the far north, you can find the adventure on OXS TV here or on the blog post from the trip.
On a serious note I have penciled this podcast in for a once a month type thing which I feel is achievable. I would love to feature people with opinions, interests and skills that suit the Adventure NZ tag so feel free to nominate someone! I already have a few people lined up. I’ve figured it’ll take a while to find my feet with this but it’s going to be a blast!
I don’t really drink wine. In fact I don’t drink at all right now.
I do however like man made structures such as Golf Courses, or in this case, vineyards. They always look so out of place in “nature” yet so at home.
The money spent on the upkeep of these facilities is mind blowing when it comes to the upper end of the scale.
A project I’m currently working on is an aerial video for some of the local vineyards. Styled from a sunrise to sunset setting with all (most) of the rows changing colours at the moment. The biggest hurdle with this right now has been the weather. Last week was wet and grey and this week has been super windy, wet, hazy, with some sun thrown in there. Challenging to say the least.
Besides that last weekend was a fairly mellow affair. Saturday I skimmed out Pakiri and managed a dive
Sunday was a change of plans with a local shore dive and an evening shoot that I really enjoyed
Looks like this weekend is forecast to be a bit of windy mess but I’m sure there will be something to do 😉
The last week has been jammed again. A lot happening. A LOT.
My computer has really been working overtime producing content, both video and photo. Most of the content has been from the barrier trip but I’ve also been reopening folders and checking things out.
One other thing has been the addition of a water housing for my A6000. I want to get into the underwater photography game and to a level well above that of GoPros. This now means 24mp and the ability to edit RAW files.
I’m super stoked on this. I took last weekend off from vlogging but shot with this set up instead. There’s a lot of learning first to get up to speed but after one dive with it I feel I’m on the right track! The spearing was good too!
After dropping all the vlogs on OXS TV, I threw together this  Top 5 video about Great barrier Island
I’ve got a few really fun projects coming up that I’m shooting locally so stay tuned. I’ve even got some printed work displayed at the Omaha Club available for purchase. I’m going to run a little giveaway on my Facebook page soon so you should get along and give it a like!
Having returned from one of my favourite places and getting stuck in to the editing, all the daily vlogs are now live from the trip!
This took countless hours with over 165gb of footage to sift through. I can now safely say I have seen every video clip of that. I would love to say one day in particular stands out but there isn’t one.
Anyway we’ll kick it off with the first day where we landed on the island and got settled in.
Day 2 we’ll say was “moving day”. Time to make a plan, hit the water and check out those views!
Day 3 was my birthday. The BIG 30 (gulp). I celebrated it with a lot of rad people!
Day 4 was MT Hobson day and the best winching day. Too much fun!
Day 5 was rest day… Sort of
Day 6 we were back on the winch and we big Adam farewell on his next adventure
Day 7 was my least favourite simply because we had to go home!
It’s good to be home but I can’t wait to go back. Thanks again to those who made the trip what it was!
In regards to last weeks blog post, I referred to a couple of videos that I couldn’t post due to them not being live blah blah etc etc. I was away, doing this sort of thing
Anyway this is just an update with those videos. This first one is possibly my favourite production to date! Shot over Easter weekend, boy oh boy
The Saturday was a beautiful sunrise and dive session. Another Kingfish!
Sunday. Boy the weather sucked but we smoked some fish and had one of the most fun winch sessions to date
That’s the update. I’m working really hard on all the barrier footage with vlogs already up on OXS TV so check it out!
I’m on an island right now. A great one. I mentioned in in last weeks blog.
Figured out where yet?
Oh yes, it’s Great Barrier Island. The Barrier of dreams. I love it here, a……. Lot! Here’s a video with the reasons why
As for this post I did try to attach all my unlisted videos I’m dropping this week but YouTube won’t let me sooooo. You can find my main channel here (where all the vlogs are from last year) and my vlogging channel here.
I don’t have a decent laptop so I can’t sort this out on the go like a normal person would ha.
Here is my favourite photo from the last week
Anyway I will be dropping a whole heap of content from the barrier so stay tuned!
I pride myself in being productive, hard working and motivated. I turn 30 in two weeks, which I’m not looking forward to. In fact I haven’t, since I was about 27.
I sort of know why, I sort of don’t.
I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting on life lately and really trying to work out what it is, I want to do. I know I want to deal with hard working, motivated and above all… Passionate people. Passion is everything to me. I consider myself passionate, probably a little too passion filled.
Unlike most people I genuinely do feel I know what I want but here’s the cliffhanger……
I’m working far too slowly in order to get there.
Everyone knows the saying “Time flies when you’re having fun” and boyyy, I have a lot of fun but it’s time. Time to pull finger. Pull all of them, at once.
The last week, like always has been action packed. Saturday was spent winching and diving as seen below
Sunday was dive day (again) and I had a shocker. Over the span of about half a hour I shot and lost my best fish ever, got tangled in my line and almost drown, then lost my gun. Was a fun day anyway
I also just dropped this super fun Game Of Skim we filmed a few weeks ago
Shooting nice pictures of nice things is on my list on finger pulling actions. I’ve been out on the Golf Course again and just have to sort a couple more images so here’s a little snippet
One thing I set out to do in 2016 was to be more self sustainable. Living in the bush with no power wasn’t really what I had in mind but I do want to talk about a few things.
Mass production of goods, people not knowing where their food comes from and plastics. Bloody plastics.
I haaaaate plastic. I hate the idea of it, I hate how it doesn’t break down and I hate how we can’t recycle the majority of it. Yet here I sit, using a lot of plastic.
One of three things is that I really want to focus on here was the reuse of as much plastic packaging as I can. I’m doing quite well in this department after having made a few basic changes.
Secondly, I’ve really set out to gather a lot of my own meat and this of course means catching fish. Or spearing it in this case. Instead of just filleting and throwing the rest away, we’ve refined the (kingfish) process to filleting, then prepping the spines, heads and wings for smoking. The tails and odd ends, as well as bones post smoke all get made into berley. The only thing we throw out is the skin and guts which go back into the water. Sustainable yes.
Lastly, I really want to grow my own veges. I have nothing to report here but am working on it ha. You get the idea.
Anyway onto this week. I spent last weekend skimming about at Wenderholm with the team and at the Aotearoa Surf Film Festival. Saturdays vlog is here
Sunday was spent in the water where we managed to snag four Kingfish which were all prepped and the remaining parts smoked on Monday. We then hit up a really fun skim sesh at Pakiri. You might not want to watch this video if you’re not keen on seeing a bit of the errrr filleting process
The weather seems to have improved and I’m gearing up for another fun weekend!
Well the last week has been interesting. The official Summer season that blessed us with either perfect, boiling hot days or torrential rain has now passed. Overall I have very mixed feelings about what was meant to be Summer, we all know that Autumn is the best time of year anyway. On that note here is my latest 4K drone video
I snuck in a few shoots over the week but this post is more about the weekend and our friend Fred. Fred appears to be the resident 8ft Bronze Whaler who hangs around us when we spearfish at Leigh. Another early start and a Kawhai in the bag very quickly.
Then in came Fred. I had just shot a nice size Drummer and he (or she) decided that it wasn’t my fish anymore. Still being fairly new to experiencing this, it really isn’t a reason to panic. Intense is probably the way to describe which I’m going to cover more shortly in a video. Peep the vlog below
I would really love to start getting some great shots of this sort of thing which requires a lot more coordination in the water from those around but we’re working on it!
Sunday is Fun day. Another early(ish) start to do the Ti Point walk with a friend. The weather was a beauty compared to what was forecast and we even saw some dolphins a long way out! I snapped a couple of panos with this one being my favourite
Not a pano but yes please
The rain came in later on as forecast and I had the chance to have a look around this immaculate 6.5 million. Dollar. Chopper! Check it all below
The print room has also been getting a bit of use during the week as I wrapped up this job for the Bluefins Spearfishing Club
